A layered artifact that connects the teenage Bobby Fischer to the Soviet chess empire he would later conquer. This is not just an autograph; it is a piece of Cold War material culture signed at the moment Fischer burst onto the world stage.

The lot is a vintage Soviet-era ephemera holder, specifically a cardstock packet designed for postage stamps and First Day Covers (EFDCs), produced by the Soviet state firm V/O Mezhdunarodnaya Kniga (Международная книга) , the official Soviet exporter of literature and philatelic goods. The front of the piece features a dense array of Cyrillic text advertising stamp collections, listing themes such as "LENIN-USSR-COSMOS-SPORT-FLORA-FAUNA-FOR PEACE & FRIENDSHIP PAINTING-TRANSPORT-ETC., ETC." It bears the "MADE IN USSR" mark and the iconic Mezhdunarodnaya Kniga logo.

The reverse side of this Soviet souvenir serves as a pristine canvas for two significant inscriptions:

The ephemera holder is in very good condition for its age and paper type. It exhibits even toning and minimal edge wear consistent with a piece that has been carefully preserved for over six decades. The signature is bold, distinct, and shows no signs of fading or smudging. The dimensions are approximately 6" x 4" (standard for such philatelic packets). A pristine example of ephemera from the height of the Cold War.

To find a Fischer signature on Soviet commercial goods from the spring of 1958 is to hold a tangible piece of the geopolitical and sporting tension that defined an era.
