The original preliminary front-cover jacket art created by Craig DeCamps for the first trade edition of Stephen King's classic novel Christine, published by Viking Press in 1983. This is the sole surviving preliminary work from this commission, representing a distinct step in the creation of one of the most iconic horror book covers of the era.
Created in November 1982, this original artwork predates the final published dust jacket and offers a rare glimpse into the artist's creative process. The piece features a dramatic black screen background, against which the author's name, "STEPHEN KING," is rendered in the artist's hand in bold, painted red lettering. The final published dust jacket, which credits DeCamps for the jacket art, would go on to greet readers upon the book's release on April 29, 1983, becoming the enduring visual identity for this landmark title.
The canvas measures 14.75 x 19 inches, with the illustration area measuring 9.5 x 14.5 inches. The piece is in pristine condition, having remained in the artist's continuous possession since its creation. This offering is accompanied by a formal Letter of Provenance signed by the artist, Craig DeCamps, which certifies the work's origin and authenticity.
